As far back as the late 1890’s and long before Worth Avenue was a glimmer in Mizner’s eye, there was an original “Main Street” in Palm Beach. When was Main Street revitalized as Royal Poinciana Way?
The correct answer today is (C) 1938. In addition to a facelift for the aging Gilded-era commercial district, improvements included a new four-lane bridge from the mainland, as well as a widened roadway and parkway christened as Royal Poinciana Way. It might be coincidental, but this was the same year that the merchants on Worth Avenue united to form the Worth Avenue Association.
