The Palm Beach-New York Connection

Large metal beam sculpture next to eternal flame fountain and pavilion

New Yorkers have always loved Palm Beach. From the time of Henry Flagler, the  society pilgrimage between the Hamptons and Palm Beach has been as sure as the seasons. On this special day etched in our collective memory, we wanted to reflect on that special bond with New York.

The love is clearly evident at suburban Wellington’s Patriot Memorial, due west of Palm Beach. From the ruins of the World Trade Center, the community chose one of the largest steel beams around which to build a tribute to those who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks. The memorial includes an eternal flame fountain and glass panels with the names of the victims.

While we won’t be gathering for an annual ceremony this year, county residents and visitors can stop by in person or virtually to remember those lost as well as our special connection. May we never forget!
